Horscroft Place Moorabbin
Connecting people to places through artworks - weaving together nature, growth, and change
City of Kingston
Morrabbin, Bunurong Country, Victoria
Moorabbin has a new pocket park for the community along Horscroft Place, Moorabbin.
The pocket park renewal project is an expanded pedestrian thoroughfare and improved cycle connections to the economic and transport zones. With recent developments of nearby residential housing and its location set within mixed-use industrial zoning, Kingston City Council sought to enhance connections between local residents and the Moorabbin Junction train station, the hospital and TAFE.
Kingston Arts sought experienced artists to deliver environmental-themed artworks to activate the Pocket Park in consultation with the local community. The challenge was turning an overlooked passage into a vibrant park where art, nature, and community would seamlessly intertwine
Artbox was brought on to inject our creative concepts into the park and develop designs by building on local contextual themes, reinforcing the unique identity and values of the location.
The Butterfly Renewal murals take inspiration from Australian flora, depicting the progressive stages of the Monarch butterflies' rebirth which - much like Horscroft Place Pocket Park - is undergoing a significant transformation.
The Monarchs sculptures to continue with that same narrative of the adjacent mural. The sculptures are emerging from their chrysalides to bathe their newly formed wings in the sun, bringing a playful dimension to the space.
The result is a pocket park that has become a lively and inspiring community hub. Our artwork breathes life into the space, creating a strong sense of place. With picnic tables, open green spaces, and landscaped gardens, the location is a welcoming retreat for relaxation and gathering. The park now fosters social interaction, improves walkability and connectivity, and serves as a vibrant, artistic hub within the Moorabbin area.
